The United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) assistance to the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza is aimed at reducing poverty and building livelihoods. UNDP's current strategy in Gaza focuses on the restoration of access and movement, the restitution and reconstruction of basic services and infrastructure, and the reduction of additional risks and vulnerabilities following the December 2008 military operations.
This strategy has engendered successful early recovery and reconstruction initiatives, and has achieved marked success in reducing poverty through economic empowerment and land reclamation programmes. In the future, UNDP will continue to rebuild and improve infrastructure that is vital to government and economic functioning in the area.
