Nicosia - The second annual international Build Peace Conference opens this weekend in Nicosia. On 25 and 26 April more than 250 peacebuilders, activists, social innovators and academics from 61 countries will get together at venues on both sides of the divided city to share experience and ideas on using technologies to galvanise and broaden peacebuilding activities and promote conflict transformation. The two-day conference provides a unique platform for advocates and practitioners to compare notes as they spell out how and why giving technology a chance can change the dynamics of peacebuilding.

USD 9.4 million Emergency Funding from Japan to support projects in the West Bank and Gaza through UNDP
East Jerusalem – As part of their continuous efforts to support the Palestinian people, the Government of Japan announced the approval of a USD 9.4 million grant for projects implemented in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP).

Japan Contributes USD 2.5 million to Community Stabilization and Resilience in the Border States of Sudan
Khartoum - The Government of Japan has allocated USD 2.5 million to UNDP’s Promoting Community Stabilization Programme. This generous contribution enables UNDP to support the Government of Sudan initiating project implementation immediately in the target states.

The Syrian Centre for Policy Research (SCPR), an independent not–for-profit think tank based in Damascus launched its report “Syria: Alienation and Violence” as part of series of quarterly based reports on the impact of the crisis on development in Syria. The report covers the conflict during 2014 on quarterly basis. The report is supported by both UNDP and UNRWA.

Berlin – As Syria’s war heads towards a fifth year, the United Nations and partners today launched a major new humanitarian and development appeal, requesting over $8.4 billion in funds to help nearly 18 million people in Syria and across the region in 2015. The appeal includes two main elements: support for the 12 million displaced and conflict-affected people inside Syria, and addressing the needs of the millions of Syrian refugees in the region and the countries and communities hosting them.
