Mr. Adnan Mansour, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and the UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Robert Watkins will sign a project document entitled “Support to the Second Meeting of State Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions”. The ceremony will take place today, Wednesday June 22nd at 3:30pm, at the premises of the ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beirut

EL Geneina, West Darfur- The Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC) and the UNDP, held the first of three media sensitization workshops in the Darfur region. With over 20 participants representing television, newspaper, radio and other traditional forms of media, the workshop in Geneina set about increasing awareness of local Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Community Security and Small Arms Control (CSAC) issues. It also aimed to bring about a greater understanding of the roles they as media can play in being a part of this nationally and locally-owned process.

The UN system launches internal campaign to fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the workplace in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, the United Nations system is launching on the 8th of June 2011, a global campaign called “Stigma Fuels HIV” aimed to create awareness and to fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination. The UN system strives to become a model workplace in regard to HIV and for this reason it provides continuing training to its employees about HIV prevention, treatment and care options; and it has adopted advanced policies that ensure a fair and respectful environment.

Cairo – HE Essam Sharaf, Prime Minister of Egypt and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator, Helen Clark , inaugurated today the "International Forum on Pathways of Democratic Transitions: International Experiences, Lessons Learnt and the Road Ahead." The 2-days forum aims to share experiences of countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America which have undergone democratic transitions in recent years to enrich on-going debates on democracy and development in Egypt, Tunisia, and elsewhere in the Arab states region.

Cairo – The challenges which Egypt currently faces are not confined to achieving a smooth transition through building representative and responsive political institutions. Charting a new course for social and economic development which reduces poverty, creates decent work – including for young people, and achieves equity is also high on the agenda. This was the conclusion of a youth-oriented workshop held today under the title: "Social and Economic Challenges in Egypt: Policies required to develop the Economy and achieve Social Equity."
