Iraqi arts mark Human Rights Day
The Iraqi Independent High Commission for Human Rights in cooperation with UNAMI, UNDP and OHCHR, marked International Human Rights Day under the theme “My Voice Counts”. The event took place at the UN compound in Baghdad.
Eleven young promising Iraqi artists participated in an arts exhibition that UNDP organised. The exhibition showcased how these artists perceived and promoted Human Rights through art. It powerfully reflected a wide range of areas of Human Rights and the plight of the different vulnerable groups in Iraq including women, children and the internally displaced.
Representatives from the Government of Iraq, the civil society, the Iraqi Council of Representatives and Diplomatic Missions in Iraq attended the event.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to Iraq, Human Rights Commissioners and other guests appraised the young artists and their work.
The young artists presented their work to the participants and shared their visions for the Iraq they aspire for.
