Social Good Summit 2015
The Social Good Summit is a two-day conference examining the impact of technology and new media on social good initiatives around the world. Held during UN Week from September 27-28, the Social Good Summit unites a dynamic community of global leaders and grassroots activists to discuss solutions for the greatest challenges of our time. Our theme, #2030NOW, asks the question, “What type of world do I want to live in by the year 2030?” During the Social Good Summit, global citizens around the world unite to unlock the potential of technology to make the world a better place.
The Venue will be 92nd Street Y is a world-class cultural and community center where people all over the world connect through culture, arts, entertainment and conversation. For 140 years, they have harnessed the power of arts and ideas to enrich, enlighten and change lives, and the power of community to repair the world.
Nine Country office from the Arab region have committed to host events in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan and Tunisia.
The Social Good Summit in Algeria 2015 was a campaign. The aim of this campaign was to raise people's awareness about the global goals that were launched during the historic session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. A partnership has taken place between Radio everyone and Algeria Radio to launch the campaign and reach large number of audience. More
The Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme will organize a mini discussion panel for youth associations registered at the Ministry of Social Development. This meeting will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 from four o'clock until eight in the evening at the headquarters of the social center of Manama Juffair area.
The aim of this meeting is to involve representatives of these youth associations and introduce the sustainable development goals to them. More
ICT Trust Fund, UNDP Egypt, United Nations Volunteers Egypt (UNV Egypt) and Open It will join forces to support the launching of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national level by hosting the Open Code for Sustainable Development camp in Cairo as part of the global network of events on the occasion of the Social Good Summit 2015 on 18th to 21st and 28th to 29th of September 2015. As part of the global launch of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNDP Jordan joined the world in celebrating the SDGs in their own way; by designing an artistic symbolic mural on one of the main public school walls in Rehab municipality at Mafraq Governorate. The Rehab mural reflected the local community’s visions and hopes towards the world they want in 2030. The mural was designed and built by volunteers from both the local community and the American University of Madaba, as well as volunteers from the United Nations Development Program’s 3X6 project with the support of Zain Company and a number of local associations in Rehab.
UNDP Lebanon participated in the global conversation through organizing a meet up group where 120 participants from different cultural and educational background met in Metro al Madina in Hamra, on 29 September 2015.
The topics were chosen based on what are the most related goals to Lebanon among the new 17 goals. The first topic addressed Accountability and Inclusiveness with the focus on Transparency and access to Information, the second topic focused Sustainable Environment and Solid Waste Management, with the last topic highlighting Networking and Lobbying in Social Media outlets within that the representation of Syrians and Palestinians in use media coverage. UNDP Sudan hostedthe Social Summit this year in Khartoum during the period 12-14 September 2015, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, DAL Food and Sudani Telecommunications Co.
A group of development experts, Government officials, non-government organizations, private sector representatives, technology leaders and entrepreneurs have met in 14th of September to celebrate the Sudanese youths who competed for three days in the challenges of technology contest with a view to developing innovative solutions for development sectors in Sudan.
