    Launching of “Syria: Alienation and Violence” Report Impact of Syria Crisis 2014

    The Syrian Centre for Policy Research (SCPR), an independent not–for-profit think tank based in Damascus launched its report “Syria: Alienation and Violence” as part of series of quarterly based reports on the impact of the crisis on development in Syria. The report covers the conflict during 2014 on quarterly basis. The report is supported by both UNDP and UNRWA.

    UNDP Launches Projects in Support of Area C and East Jerusalem With funding from Sweden, Austria, Norway and UK

    USD 3 million Contribution from the Government of Norway through UNDP to Support Gaza

    Jerusalem – The Government of Norway and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed a USD 3 million (NOK 23,000,000) agreement to fund shelter assistance packages for non-refugees as part of their on-going support to early recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.

    During a press conference which took place today at Al Shaqab in Doha, Education Above All’s Al Fakhoora programme signed agreements with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNWRA) for reconstruction, rehabilitation and psychosocial support projects in the education sector, with a focus on damages occurred in Gaza during last summer’s hostilities.

    First NGO Human Rights Advisory Board in the Iraqi parliament

    The Council of Representatives (COR) today launched in Baghdad the NGO Human Rights Advisory Board, which will assist the parliament's Human Rights Committee to effectively engage with the civil society and promote human rights through the legislative body. The UN development agency (UNDP) played an instrumental role in creating this platform, first of its kind in Iraq.

    The National Council for Women and UNDP join forces to combat violence against women

    The National Council for Women (NCW) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the ministries of Justice, Interior and Foreign Affairs have launched a new programme to combat violence against women. Ambassador Mervat Tallawy, President of the NCW, Ambassador Sherif Refaat, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Ignacio Artaza, UNDP Egypt Country Director, endorsed the programme in the presence of representatives from the ministries of Justice and Interior.

    MoLA Inaugurates Strategy for Supporting CSOs’ Role in Transitional Justice

    The Ministry of Legal Affairs (MoLA),in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office of the United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR),) launched its “Strategy for Engaging Civil Society in Transitional Justice Efforts in Yemen.” The strategy was introduced during three conferences attended by more than 280 civil society organizations (CSOs) in Aden, Taiz and Sana’a.     UNDP Deliver Solid Waste Compactors to Irbid and Mafraq Governorate

    Under the patronage of the Minister of Municipalities Affaires, Engineer Waleed al Masri, UNDP and Japan Embassy handed over new solid waste compactors to Mafraq and Irbid governorates; specifically to Sabha and Al Dafyaneh, Um Jmal, AL-Salheyah and al Mafraq Municipalities located in Mafraq governorate and in Al Ramtha, Irbid municipalities located in Irbid governorate. The ceremony took place in Sabha and al Dafyaneh municipality in Mafraq on Tuesday, August 26. Attended the event; Ambassador of Japan, UNDP country Director, Mafraq and Irbid Governors and Director of the Local development directorate in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

    Supporting local authorities with basic services for IDPs in Dohuk

    The Country Director of UNDP Iraq, Adam Abdelmoula, today met with the Governor of Dohuk, Farhad Amin Atroshi, to discuss support to IDPs and host communities, and signed an agreement with the Department of Underground Water on the drilling of two wells to serve 1000 vulnerable IDP in Dawoodia, Dohuk. He also visited the Syrian refugee camp in Domiz, and internally displaced people in Sharia area, Dohuk.

    UNDP strongly refutes recent media claims regarding programme oversight efforts in Somalia. On 20 June 2014 UNDP’s Independent Office of Audit and Investigation (OAI) released an audit of the UNDP Country Office in Somalia, which covered UNDP’s activities in the country in 2013.

    The Netherlands Signs Contribution Agreement to the UNDP/UN Women Joint Programme in Support of the Palestinian Rule of Law Sector

    Jerusalem – Demonstrating their steadfast support to the rule of law and community access to justice and security, the Government of the Netherlands and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed, on behalf of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund, an USD 8.1 million contribution agreement covering a period of three years.
