    UN Global Compact launched in Iraq

    In a historic event, the United Nations Development Programme and the Iraqi Council of Ministers Secretariat launched today the UN Global Compact in Iraq, The Global Compact is a world-wide initiative to enhance the role of the private sector and promote responsible business practices through sustainable partnerships and commitments to human rights, labour standards, environmental sustainability and transparency in business operations.

    UNDP discusses with governments officials, NGOs and UN agencies recovery and prospects for long term sustainable development in Darfur

    El Fasher – During his first visit to Darfur, the newly appointed UNDP Country Director Mr. Sayed Aqa met with the Wali of North Darfur, Mr. Osman Kibir, on October 9 in El Fasher. Mr. Kibir commended the work of UNDP throughout the years, particularly its focus on sustainability and capacity development of state institutions and NGOs in the three Darfur states.

    Inauguration of a primary health care center in Sareen El Fawka – Baalbeck

    UNDP-ART GOLD Lebanon in partnership with the municipality of Sareen El Fawka, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will inaugurate the newly equipped primary health care center in Sareen Al Fawka at the primary health care center premises on Thursday September 22nd 2011 at 11:30am sharp. The inauguration will be convened in the presence of Mr. Seifeldin Abbaro, UNDP Country Director, the head of the Eastern Baalbeck Federation, in addition to local officials and representatives from the civil society.

    Solar Summit Arabia

    Riyadh, The Solar Arabia Summit sponsored by UNDP which serves as supporting organization and will be hosted by King Saud University during the 23rd and 24th of October 2011.     Ministry of foreign affairs and emigrants and UNDP sign a new project: support to the second meeting of state parties to the convention on cluster munitions

    H.E. Mr. Adnan Mansour, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and the UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Robert Watkins will sign a project document entitled “Support to the Second Meeting of State Parties to the Convention on Cluster Munitions”.     The media is the message: DDR and CSAC workshops in Darfur

    EL Geneina, West Darfur- The Sudan DDR Commission (SDDRC) and the UNDP, held the first of three media sensitization workshops in the Darfur region. With over 20 participants representing television, newspaper, radio and other traditional forms of media, the workshop in Geneina set about increasing awareness of local Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) and Community Security and Small Arms Control (CSAC) issues. It also aimed to bring about a greater understanding of the roles they as media can play in being a part of this nationally and locally-owned process.

    Commando forest fighting training certificates

    The UN system launches internal campaign to fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the workplace in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

    Riyadh, the United Nations system is launching on the 8th of June 2011, a global campaign called “Stigma Fuels HIV” aimed to create awareness and to fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination. The UN system strives to become a model workplace in regard to HIV and for this reason it provides continuing training to its employees about HIV prevention, treatment and care options; and it has adopted advanced policies that ensure a fair and respectful environment.
