    UNDP and Japan agree to expand support for restoring access to electricity in Syria

    New York - The United Nations Development Programme’s Regional Bureau for Arab States and the Government of Japan signed today a US$11.5 million agreement to expand efforts to restore reliable electricity to Syrian communities affected by the crisis in Syria. The one-year agreement will be implemented by UNDP Syria and builds on ongoing support by the Government of Japan for UNDP’s efforts to reach the most vulnerable people across the war-torn country which has been in crisis since 2011.

    UNDP Concludes Emergency Support to Solid Waste Services Project in the Gaza Strip

    Gaza – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Japan marked the closing of the emergency support to solid waste services project in the Gaza Strip, funded by the Government of Japan for a total of USD 4.3 million. The project, which is implemented in partnership with the Presidency’s Job Creation Programme (JCP), contributed to creating over 181,777 working days for more than 7,000 workers.

    Supporting community-oriented solutions to conflicts in Taizz and Abyan

    Sana’a - UNDP in partnership with Search for Common Ground has launched a Social Cohesion and Conflict Transformation Initiative in Ash Shamayateen and Al Ma'afer districts of Taiz Governorate and Lawdar and Mawdiah districts of Abyan Governorate. The project aims to support community-based dialogue to resolve conflicts and enhance community resilience to violence in the targeted districts.

    Improving service delivery in rural communities of Ash-Shamaytayn District in Taizz

    UNDP in partnership with the Social Fund for Development (SFD) and local authorities has launched 100 community-based initiatives in Ash-Shamaytayn District in Taizz Governorate to promote community participation in local development by organizing Village Cooperative Councils and by stimulating community initiatives.

    Tunis – The Centre for Arab Women Training and Research (CAWTAR) launched the Legal and Human Rights of Women and Men: between Equality and Gaps, an online information tool that aims to feature “legal status and rights” compiling laws related to the status of gender and human rights in 20 Arab countries.

    UNDP and Japan partner to support stabilization and resilience in Iraq

    Baghdad – The Government of Japan is providing US$23.5 million to support the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in its work to help stabilize and build resilience in Iraq. Japan’s contribution will be channeled through UNDP’s Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS) and through UNDP’s Iraq Crisis Response and Resilience Programme (ICRRP).

    USD 4.3 million Funding from Japan to support projects in the Gaza Strip through UNDP

    Jerusalem – As part of their continuous efforts to support the Palestinian people, the Government of Japan entrusted UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP) with a USD 4.3 million contribution targeting the Gaza Strip. The new contribution will address environmental sustainability and employment generation for youth in the Gaza Strip.

    With funding from Sweden, Norway and Austria UNDP Signs Agreements in Support of East Jerusalem Youth and Health Sectors

    East Jerusalem – With funding from the Governments of Sweden, Norway and Austria, UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed agreements, worth USD 1.27 million, in support of the resilience of Palestinians residing in East Jerusalem. The four projects target three hospitals (Makassed, Augusta Victoria and St John Eye hospital), in addition to the Welfare Association (Taawon).

    Funded by the Government of Japan, UNDP kicks off Tokyo Football League in Gaza

    Gaza –The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Palestine Football Association, kicked off the Tokyo Football League as part of their shared commitment to empowering youth in the Gaza Strip, which is a part of the “Support to Youth and the Sports Sector in the Gaza Strip” project funded by the Government of Japan for the amount of USD 153,430. The project was a commitment made by the Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Shinzo Abe, when President Mahmoud Abbas visited Japan and met him last month.

    Ministry of Social Solidarity and UNDP sign a cooperation agreement to strengthen the institutional capacities and human resources of the Ministry

    Cairo, The Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed today Thursday 10th of March the cooperation agreement on the project entitled: “Strengthening Institutional and Human Resources Capacities of MoSS”.
