  • UNDP expands its support for solid waste removal in Sa’ada and AdenFeb 8, 2016Aden and Saada - UNDP in partnership with Abna’a Sa’ada Organization and Nahda Makers launched an emergency management project to restore disrupted solid waste removal service in the governorates of Sa’ada and Aden respectively. This initiative will provide employment opportunities for 250 vulnerable youth in Sa’ada and for 50 youth in Aden, improving the livelihoods of 2,100 family members.

  • Launch of Emergency Solid Waste Management Assistance in TaizzJan 24, 2016UNDP launched an emergency solid waste management response targeting the districts of Salh, Al Qahirah and Al Mudhaffar in Taizz Governorate. This assistance will provide emergency employment opportunity for 30 work days to 250 vulnerable youth at risk, 195 men and 55 women, and restore disrupted solid waste removal services. The intervention will also strengthen the operational capacity of the Cleanliness Fund by rehabilitating its fleet through the provision of spare parts and tools.

  • Norway contributes additional funding to help stabilize newly liberated areas in IraqJan 19, 2016The Kingdom of Norway has contributed an additional US$2.8 million to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This is the second contribution from the Kingdom of Norway in recent months, and will be dedicated to restoring livelihoods for people returning home.

Initiated by the Arab Coordination Group (CG), the ADP is a comprehensive, one-stop-shop knowledge resource that aims to improve the scope, depth, reliability, availability and use of high quality development information to support development progress in the Arab region. Denmark’s generous contribution will be earmarked for three projects: Strengthening Participatory and Accountable Governance, Support to Security Sector Reform Phase II, and the Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization. These three initiatives are part of UNDP’s support for Government efforts to build a more secure, prosperous and democratic Iraq.
