Amman – Crisis response officials from 20 Arab countries started in Amman today meetings of the first regional conference “Towards a Crisis Response Network in the Arab Region.” Over two days, the conference discusses means to enhance the regional architecture for crisis management in order to link and strengthen national institutions, operating procedures, and capacities in early warning and crisis response.

UNDP launches its first-ever regional project to support Arab Women’s Participation in the Public Sphere, “Mosharaka”
Amman – At the close of a 2-day consultation that brought together key women’s-rights stakeholders and activists from around the Arab region, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched its new regional project, “Mosharaka” –Arabic for participation. The project galvanizes efforts of government institutions, civil society–especially women-based organizations, human rights councils, the private sector, the League of Arab States and several UN agencies, to foster inclusive participation of Arab women in public life, including the political, economic and social spheres.

Partners discuss UNDP’s US$166 Million Resilience-based Development Response to the crisis in Syria and neighbouring Countries
Amman – Development partners from 18 countries and the EU meeting in Amman today agreed that the Kuwait II Pledging Conference for Syria, slated for 15 January 2014, should encompass support for critical development efforts to compliment the humanitarian response to the crisis in Syria and its spill over impacts on neighbouring countries. The meeting which brought together partners with long-standing experience and knowledge of the region and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Directors from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey endorsed UNDP’s Resilience-based Development Response in support of people and communities affected by the Syrian crisis in the five countries.
