    First Social Business Lab in Sana’a to support social entrepreneurship for resilience inaugurated

    Sana’a, Yemen - UNDP launched today Yemen’s first Social Business Lab in partnership with the Business Support Center, the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Service (SMEPS), ROWAD Entrepreneurs Foundation and the Yemen Women Union, gathering 50 youth from five crisis-affected districts of Sana’a to identify promising business-oriented solutions to their communities’ challenges.

    UN and Partners convene Forum to envision future directions of a comprehensive resilience-building response to the continuing Syria crisis

    Amman –The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will bring together key humanitarian and development stakeholders to collectively consider future directions of the response to the protracted crisis in Syria, now well into its fifth year. The Forum will include UN agencies; international financial institutions; donors; representatives of international and national non-governmental organizations; and the private sector, alongside senior representatives of Governments in the countries neighbouring the war-torn country.

    UNDP re-opens ten bakeries in Aden

    Aden, UNDP in partnership with For All Foundation launched a project re-opening of ten formerly closed bakeries under an enterprise recovery initiative, from a total of 18 in Al-Mualla neighbourhood of Aden. The bread produced from this in-kind assistance will be sold to the public at half market price for an initial period of two weeks which will also provide income-generation opportunities for 16 vulnerable youth in Al-Mualla district.

    New York - Participants in the Gender and Conflict Forum emphasized the importance of addressing, with great resolve, systematic violations committed against women and girls in conflict areas across the Arab region, which they highlighted has intensified in an unprecedented pace and in varying forms, from physical to sexual violence—including murder and rape— because of limited efforts for prevention and for the provision of relief, recovery and rehabilitation services to victims.

    The Republic of Korea supports newly liberated areas in Iraq

    The Government of the Republic of Korea and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a $1 million partnership agreement, on 22 September, to support stabilization and recovery in areas liberated from control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Korea’s contribution will be channeled through UNDP’s Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS), which finances fast-track initiatives prioritized by local authorities in liberated areas.

    A Future During Crisis: Yemeni Youth Receive Key Job Skills

    Sana’a, Yemen -- 135 young men and women from Hajjah governorate in Yemen have graduated from a vocational training course hosted by the Sun Rise Institute and Sana’a University on Monday. Participants of this initiative supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Netherlands, the non-governmental organizations ZOA and Millennium Development Foundation acquired key practical and theoretical job skills that include water harvesting techniques, maintenance of solar panels and solar-water pumps, plumbing and marketing of hygiene products. Another batch of around 170 youth is expected to start the training in October.

    UNDP Climate Change Storytelling Contest: Oxfam supports journalists' participation with additional fellowships

    Oxfam will support the Voices2Paris global storytelling contest launched in August by the United National Development Programme (UNDP) by providing three additional fellowships for participating journalists to cover the UN Conference on Climate Change, COP21, in Paris in December.     Netherlands and UNDP join hands in support of women’s empowerment in Libya

    Tunis, Tunisia: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Dutch Embassy signed cost sharing agreement in support of the efforts to empower women in Libya. According to the Agreement signed today in the Dutch Embassy, the Netherlands Government will contribute a fund to UNDP/UNSMIL joint project which will be used to support the empowerment of women in the political dialogue process.
