National consultative workshop on Arab youth volunteering for a better future
The National Consultative Workshop on Arab Youth Volunteering for a Better Future was launched on Sunday 1 July 2012 in Sana’a. Under the patronage of Mr. Mohammad Al-Saadi, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and with the participation of Mr. Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, the 2-day workshop aims to facilitate a participatory dialogue, involving different youth factions, to create an enabling environment for youth to take the lead in designing and implementing programmes.
In his opening remarks during, in the first day, Mr. Ould Cheikh Ahmed said: “Volunteerism does make a difference. It fills a huge gap in the society, especially when involving youth in a dear country like Yemen”.
“We should never forget to underline youth’s devoted efforts in the past difficult period”, he added. He also said: “The UN was, and still is, a main supporter to Youth in Yemen. They are the hope and future of Yemen.
The workshop was organized by UNV Yemen, administrated by UNDP, and it was attended by 45 participants. The workshop was an opportunity to discuss potential future activities, and to identify potential partners in the future.
