"Assessing and managing risks in Lebanon" National Conference
Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Prime Minister Mr. Najib Mikati, the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), in partnership with the United Nations and the Disaster Risk Reduction unit at the Prime Minister’s Office, are organizing a national conference on “Assessing and Managing Risks in Lebanon” to promote a strategic approach to address vulnerabilities and to reduce risks.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 17th of October at 10:00am at the grand Serail.
Ms Margareta Wahlstrom, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, will attend the conference along with Mr. Robert Watkins, the United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative, Mr. Mouein Hamzah, CNRS’s Secretary General, a delegation from Italy and Japan, representatives from civil society and municipalities.
The 2 days conference aim to promote a common understanding of the risks which Lebanon currently faces, and to discuss practical strategies to strengthen resilience and to reduce vulnerabilities.
In particular, the workshop will seek to provide an overview of key natural and man-made risks in Lebanon, to share experiences from other countries faced with similar challenges and to initiate a national Disaster Risk Reduction Platform.
