Panel Discussion on Gender Justice and the Law: the Policy Perspective

The Gender Justice and the Law initiative represents a multi-stakeholder partnership between 4 UN Agencies (UN-ESCWA, UNDP, UN Women and UNFPA) and valuable national stakeholders in 20 Arab States. The Gender Justice and the Law initiative presents a robust methodology to enhance states’ adherence to international frameworks, which holds relevance for other Member States and UN Agencies as well.

The event was a half-day panel discussion with select participants from multiple National Consultations, on the topic of their engagement with the Gender Justice and the Law Initiative. Specifically, the aim of the panel discussion was to contribute to developing a common understanding about the value of the national reports the benefit of the the Gender Justice and the Law Initiative from a policy perspective, and their views on the strengths of the methodology of development of the reports and the regional comparison. Participants will share their experiences and good practice from National Consultations in order to facilitate knowledge sharing, as well as create wider awareness of the Gender Justice and the Law initiative in the Region. This panel discussion will bring together governmental or non-governmental stakeholders from National Consultations. Input will be based on their engagement with the Gender Justice and the Law Initiative. The aim is to share experiences and optimise the value of the Gender Justice and the Law Initiative for the Region. UN-ESCWA will share some reading materials in Arabic and English prior to the event to familiarize participants with the Gender Justice and the Law Initiative.
